What Is a Hang Flower SPOTS?

“Hang Flower” refers to entertainment venues such as music bars and business KTVs. They are somewhat similar to music bars or live entertainment venues in China, where singers perform every night.
Customers can give flower ribbons to singers as a form of tipping. After finishing a song, the singer will usually acknowledge the customer who gave the flowers, sometimes by coming over to greet them or have a drink together.
Malaysia’s Hang Flower Venues

In Malaysia, Hang Flower venues generally fall into two main categories:
1. foodcourt Hang Flower venues
2. Pub-style Hang Flower venues
The first type, usually found in areas with large Chinese communities, tends to attract an older crowd. Naturally, the performers on stage are often more mature as well.
The second type, the pub-style Hang Flower venue, is where things can get much more intense. These days, many people simply call them “Thai-style venues” because many of the hostesses are Thai, and they are known for being attractive and outgoing.
Thai-style venues are very popular in Malaysia. The concept revolves around giving performers or hostesses colorful ribbons, or “flower bands,” as a form of tipping.
According to industry sources, the ribbons come in different denominations, such as RM50, RM100, RM300, RM500, RM1,000, and even RM10,000 or more!
What Do the Flower Bands Look Like?
These are examples of the flower bands used at these venues.
If you give RM1,000 or more, it is no longer considered an ordinary flower band. It is known as a cape instead.
There is generally no fixed upper limit on how much a customer can spend. A hostess can reportedly earn more than RM5,000 in a single night, depending on her relationship with customers and how well she can entertain and interact with the crowd.
Unlike some other entertainment venues, there may be no entrance fee, and the drinks are not necessarily extremely expensive. The biggest spending usually happens during the flower-band sessions.
For some wealthy customers, especially younger high-spenders, giving large amounts of flower bands can also be about showing off and making a statement.
